New York over the last three days has seen a decline in the number of positive coronavirus cases as testing reaches more than 40,000 people a day in the state.

Numbers released Tuesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office show 683 people have tested positive for the virus after 49,974 tests were administered. A day earlier, 58,054 tests were administered, with 702 positive cases. And three days earlier, the state announced 60,435 tests found 781 positive cases.

Long Island, meanwhile, will enter the second stage of the economic reopening on Wednesday.

Cuomo has praised New Yorkers for following social distancing guidelines and has urged them to continue wearing masks when in public and six feet of space cannot be maintained.

"As more regions across the state continue with the reopening process, New Yorkers should remember it was because of their hard work that we have been able to bend the curve and reopen this quickly, and all individuals should continue to follow the necessary guidelines and precautions to help prevent a renewed increase in the spread of the virus," he said.
