A TV ad campaign this week was launched to push for mobile sports betting legalization in New York.

The six-figure ad purchase has the campaign airing in the Albany market, which began on Wednesday.

The 30-second ad from Bet On NY notes the state is losing revenue to neighboring New Jersey, which legalized sports betting in 2018.

If allowed, New Yorkers would be able to place wagers on and within sporting events from mobile devices, including phones and tablets.

The major sports leagues have supported the proposal and discussed the issue in Albany with elected officials.

The state did allow sports-based wagers to take place in casinos, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo's budget proposal would allow those bets to be placed outside of designated sports books within casinos themselves.
