New York House Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, as well as Rep. Lee Zeldin, of Long Island, were named Monday to the White House's impeachment defense team.
Both Stefanik, a North Country lawmaker, and Zeldin have been staunch supporters of President Donald Trump.
“I am honored to be named by President Trump as a Member of his Impeachment Defense Team,” Stefanik said. “I am proud to stand up for the Constitution, my constituents in New York’s 21st District, and the American people’s vote.”
Stefanik was thrust into the national spotlight during the House Intelligence Committee hearings as part of the House impeachment inquiry.
