Republican Chele Chiavacci Farley has been formally designated the Republican candidate for the 18th congressional district in the Hudson Valley.
Farley is running for the seat held by Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney since 2012.
"Since announcing my candidacy last April, my opponent Sean Patrick Maloney and his cohorts in Washington have lurched further and further to the left, embracing a socialist agenda which would hurt families and small businesses across the country," Farley said. "Now more than ever, we need a Representative who will find practical and workable solutions to our needs and who will get something done for the hardworking residents of the Hudson Valley."
Farley ran against Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2018.
The 18th House district has been considered a swing seat in the past. Republican Nan Hayworth held the seat after defeating incumbent Democrat John Hall. Hayworth, in turn, lost re-election to Maloney.
