The re-election of Sen. Mike Gianaris, the deputy majority leader for the Democratic conference, was endorsed on Thursday by union 32BJ SEIU.

“We are proud to endorse Senator Mike Gianaris for re-election,” said union President Kyle Bragg.

“Senator Gianaris has consistently shown a serious commitment to working people in New York and we are confident he will continue to prioritize the pro-worker agenda that our members support including the expansion of living wages policies and access to quality, affordable healthcare.”

The labor group is one of the more politically active unions in New York, representing property service workers.

“In Trump’s America, working men and women are fighting for their lives and livelihoods, defending collective bargaining and seeking better wages against expanding corporate power. Standing alongside our brothers and sisters in labor, we are winning the fight in New York,” Gianaris said.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of 32BJ SEIU, who are among the leading advocates for working people. I will continue to stand with them and the workers they represent.”

The endorsement comes as The New York Post reported earlier in the day that Gianaris has drawn a second primary challenger: Former sanitation worker Ignazio “Iggy” Terranova. Previously Justin Potter filed to run against Gianaris.

Both candidates have criticized Gianaris over his opposition to a massive tax incentive package for Amazon’s proposed headquarters in Long Island City, a project that was ultimately shelved amid opposition.
