The reconciliation bill Republicans are currently negotiating in the U.S. Senate remains on track to cut $880 billion from Medicaid over 10 years. If it passes, it could hit New York like a freight train.

The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates the cuts will cost the state around $70 billion over 10 years.

According to the New York State Association of Counties, “The state simply does not have the resources to replace these funds without dramatically increasing taxes at the state, and potentially, county level.”

Regarding CDPAP, on the much-discussed transition from many fiscal intermediaries to one, critics say it’s creating problems for both consumers and aides. But according to the state Department of Health, “New York State protected home care and prevented a fiscal crisis by putting an end to the waste, fraud and abuse of an old system.”

Senator Gustavo Rivera, the chair of the Senate Health Committee spoke with Capital Tonight about both issues, a CDPAP hearing he’ll be holding on July 9, and why he thinks fellow state lawmaker Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, whom he supports, won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City.
