Next Tuesday, July 1, is when the certified results of a too-close-to-call Republican primary race for Ontario County district attorney are expected to be announced, the county Board of Elections said Wednesday.

Ontario County assistant attorney Jason MacBride is leading the Ontario County district attorney Republican primary race as of Tuesday evening.

MacBride is challenging incumbent Jim Ritts.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed MacBride up 51.4-48.6% over Ritts, with 115 votes separating them.

On Wednesday, the Ontario County Board of Elections announced that over 4,000 voters cast ballots in this year's primary election. Officials say they will continue to receive mail-in ballots through July 1 as long as they are postmarked by June 24. The BOE says as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 361 ballots mailed to county voters have not yet been returned to the board.

Ritts said in a statement released Tuesday evening that it was "too early to concede the race," and that he would be waiting for a Board of Elections receive and any additional absentee ballots to come in.

MacBride has 21 years of experience and also has specialties in child victims and domestic violence cases. Although, he says many overlap with criminal court, where the DA’s office focuses.

“Helping others who were at their worst moments in life is such a rewarding experience," MacBride said last week. "To work behind the scenes with them, and then giving them a voice in court so that their voice is heard and they do they do receive justice. And equally as important is holding the folks that victimize them or holding them accountable."

MacBride has secured endorsements from former District Attorney Michael Tantillo, in addition to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Police Department.
