Working to win over voters one week ahead of the Democratic primary for mayor, Andrew Cuomo toured Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights and Fort George Tuesday afternoon along with Rep. Adriano Espaillat.
After the Upper Manhattan campaign tour, Cuomo spoke exclusively with NY1 about his plan to vote early, his relationship with Mayor Eric Adams and cross endorsements.
Responding to the arrest of City Comptroller Brad Lander, Cuomo said, “I think what ICE did was terrible, it was thuggish, it was disgusting, it was brutal.”
“This is what they did to a New York City official with security and cameras, reporters taking pictures. Imagine what a family feels in a Home Depot or coming out of a school,” Cuomo added. “Mayor Adams handed over the keys to the city to Donald Trump, and now Donald Trump and his ICE are running New York City, and it's inexcusable."
NY1 asked Cuomo about his once-cordial relationship with Adams and when it changed. Cuomo said their relationship eroded once he entered the race for mayor.
“He supported everything I did, now he doesn't support it, right? And that's part of the flip flops in a campaign,” Cuomo said.
Saying he will not wait until primary day, Cuomo told NY1 he will vote early.
Asked if he plans to rank five candidates in the Democratic primary for mayor, Cuomo said, “I know who I'm going to vote number one, but that's it."
On whether he’ll cross-endorse any other candidates, the City Hall hopeful only said: “All those sort of political games, I want to keep this very simple.”
