Troy should have a permanent home for its City Hall soon, Mayor Carmela Mantello said Friday afternoon.
The mayor said her office notified First Columbia the city would not renew its lease of the Hedley Building, where City Hall is located.
“Today, we officially notified our landlord that the City of Troy will not be renewing our lease at 433 River Street as we finalize negotiations on a new, permanent home for City Hall," Mantello said in a statement. "Our new home for City Hall will be fully accessible, efficient, and fiscally responsible. By moving away from a costly rental situation, we are taking meaningful action to lessen the burden on the taxpayers, while investing in a long-term solution that benefits every Troy resident."
Mantello said an announcement about a new permanent location will be made in the coming weeks, something she has expressed her desire to do since taking office, going back to her time on the City Council.
City Hall has been a hot political topic in the Collar City for years.
The City Hall along the river at 1 Monument Square was demolished in 2011. After it moved to the Verizon Building on Sixth Avenue, it was relocated to the Hedley Building.
