With just days until Memorial Day, two state lawmakers push for a long over-due tribute for some of our veterans.

State Sen. Nathalia Fernandez and Assemblyman Jon Rivera introduced a resolution to recognize April 13 as Borinqueneers Day in New York state.

The date is already recognized on a federal level.

The 65th Infantry Regiment was the only all-Hispanic unit to serve in the U.S. Army, serving in World War I, II and Korea.

Over the years, the regime members, living and deceased, have received numerous medals and citations.

Among them, a congressional gold medal, more than 2,700 purple heart medals, 250 silver stars and 606 bronze stars.
