Three bills are being proposed following the incident of inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility.

State Sen. Julia Salazar has introduced the Robert Brooks Transparency and Accountability legislation.

This comes just a month after multiple officers hit Brooks while he was handcuffed in the prison. He died the next day. The New York Attorney General Letitia James released body camera footage of the Dec. 9 incident, which shows correction officers hitting Brooks while he was restrained at the prison.

The bills would prompt officers found of serious misconduct to be disciplined and/or fired, significantly increase transparency and provide more oversight over the prison system.

Brooks' family has also filed a civil rights lawsuit in the case.
