Gov. Kathy Hochul sat down for a more than 20-minute interview with Capital Tonight on Friday to discuss her state budget plans, child care, proposed cellphone ban and more.
In the wide-ranging interview with Susan Arbetter, Hochul said her child care plans announced in her State of the State address will help move the state toward her goal of universal child care for New Yorkers.
“I have said I’m not interested in raising income taxes because we are a high-tax state,” she said.
Hochul also discussed her proposed statewide "bell-to-bell" cellphone ban in schools, which she committed $13 million in her executive budget toward to help districts enact the change. She said the plan focuses on students, improving learning and protecting their mental health.
“In months, you’re going to see a profound difference in what’s happening in these buildings, and it’s going to be fantastic," she said.
Hochul also touched on housing, CDPAP changes and other topics.
