Another candidate joined the race to succeed Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.

Albany County Legislator Carolyn McLaughlin, a Democrat, said Thursday that she is in the running.

"I announce to you firmly and definitively and without equivocation that I will be the next mayor of the city of Albany, New York," McLaughlin said.

She and Albany's chief city Auditor Dorcey Applyrs have now formally declared their candidacies for city mayor.

McLaughlin said some of her priorities include closing the gaps when it comes to housing and economic development in the city.

Sheehan has said she will not seek reelection.

The election is not until next year.
