The U.S. Supreme Court handed down a landmark ruling that federal judges lack the authority to grant nationwide injunctions.
But the decision still leaves unclear whether President Donald Trump’s effort to end birthright citizenship could soon take effect in parts of the country.
The ruling will make it more difficult for lower courts to rule against presidential executive orders — as cases would need to go before multiple district courts.
The court did not rule on the constitutionality of birthright citizenship directly, but did say the president’s executive order cannot go into effect until 30 days after the opinion.
New York state Attorney General Letitia James joined NY1’s Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss more.
