Republicans have been stepping up attacks against federal judges as the Trump administration’s actions face a surge of court challenges.

It started after U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued a nationwide injunction against the administration’s efforts to deport migrants under the Alien Enemies Act.

President Donald Trump retaliated by calling on Congress to impeach Judge Boasberg. In response, Chief Justice John Roberts issued a statement condemning any impeachment plans.

It was a rare public split between the chief justice and president, but it may not be the last.

An opinion piece written by author Jeff Shesol details the various cases in which the Supreme Court is likely to contradict the Trump administration, and what that means for the future of the high court.

Shesol, a former speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and the co-founder of West Wing Writers, a strategic communications firm, joined “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss his ideas.
