Veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during service can enroll in healthcare services for a wide variety of issues at the VA thanks to an extension of the PACT Act.

The act originally targeted veterans exposed to burn pits and Agent Orange, but has now added 23 respiratory illnesses and cancer to the list of issues presumed to be caused due to military service.

The new coverage is kicking in much sooner than anticipated, proving important especially for Monroe County, which is home to nearly 30,000 veterans and former service members.
