School budget votes took place Tuesday across New York.

While voters decided on school budgets, there were also races for local boards of education. Bus propositions and capital improvement projects were also considered.

Jefferson Central School District in Schoharie County failed to pass its budget after it sought a 1.99% tax levy increase to fund its $8.1 million budget.

Brunswick Central School District fell just shy of the 60% mark needed to pass its $31 million budget that carried with it a 5.9% tax levy increase that exceeded the property tax cap.

Scotia-Glenville, Northville and New Lebanon districts also failed to pass their budgets. In the Hudson Valley, Tuxedo Union Free School's budget failed to pass.

By law, if a budget failed in Tuesday's vote — though a district isn't required to hold a re-vote — an altered budget has to be completed at least a week before the budget hearing, and a vote on a changed budget must take place on June 17 unless it would conflict with a religious observance.
