A court ruling will allow former Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren to stay on the primary ballot for the office of Rochester City Court judge.

Paperwork from Monroe County Supreme Court shows a suit was filed by Democrat and local attorney Michael Geraci, who is also running for the city court judge seat, when Warren appeared on both petitions for city judge and also a party committee seat. The documents say Warren's name was penciled in without her consent for the latter position by another person in the party and the judge ordered that petition be struck.

The suit argued that Warren's petition for the city court judge seat should be invalidated because she was listed as a candidate for two public offices that are incompatible. The court rejected that argument, saying Geraci failed to show that Warren committed fraud on the voting public and she can remain on the ballot for Rochester City Court judge.

In March, Warren announced she was collecting signatures to get on the ballot for the spring primary, despite Geraci winning the Monroe County Democratic Committee's designation with nearly 95% of the vote.

The party selected Warren to serve on the county's 22nd Legislative District Committee in 2022. The appointment came less than a year after she pleaded guilty to violating election law and resigned as mayor.
